Renault and Nissan to Re-enter India’s Midsize SUV Market with New Launches in 2025

Renault and Nissan are set to make a strong comeback in India’s highly competitive midsize SUV segment. The automakers aim to challenge established models like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos with new launches expected by the end of 2025.

Renault’s Third-Generation Duster

After a prolonged hiatus, Renault is gearing up to reintroduce the Duster in India with its third-generation model. The new Duster will be built on the CMF-B LS (Low Specifications) platform and is designed to deliver rugged SUV proportions. Its bold exterior will feature an upright nose, high-set bonnet with power bulges, muscular shoulders, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Additional highlights include high ground clearance, sleek roof rails, large skid plates, and hidden rear door handles, all contributing to its robust yet sophisticated appearance.

Inside, the new Duster emphasizes a tough and modern design with a chunky dashboard, tactile switches, and Y-shaped AC vent inserts that mirror the vehicle’s exterior styling. Key features include a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and four USB Type-C ports.

Renault may equip the Duster with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), including up to 17 features globally available in its international variants. Engine options could include a 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 99 hp, a 1.3-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 154 hp, and a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine for affordability. Transmission options might include 5-speed manual, 6-speed automatic, and CVT variants.

Local testing for the third-gen Renault Duster has already begun, with its launch slated for late 2025.

Nissan’s Upcoming Midsize SUV

Nissan will introduce a new midsize SUV, likely sharing its platform and components with Renault’s Duster. While details remain limited, the model may feature a more elegant design to cater to an upscale market. The SUV could be launched as a successor to the Nissan Terrano or an entirely new offering.

Expected similarities between Nissan’s midsize SUV and the new Duster include engine options, ADAS features, and technological upgrades. Nissan’s launch could follow Renault’s by one or two months, positioning both brands to target the festive season in India.

Competitive Pricing

Renault and Nissan are likely to price their midsize SUVs competitively, starting at around ₹11 lakh (ex-showroom). By re-entering this popular segment, the automakers hope to regain a strong foothold in India, leveraging their new offerings to challenge segment leaders.

Both companies aim to reinvigorate their presence in India, where Renault last launched the Kiger in 2021 and Nissan introduced the Magnite in 2020. With these upcoming SUVs, Renault and Nissan are signaling their commitment to the Indian market and the evolving demands of SUV buyers.
